More than 21,000 charging devices sold on Amazon are being recalled after nine reports of the devices exploding, one consumer burn report and a serious fire resulting in $2 million in property damage.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, NEWDERY Power Banks are being recalled for severe fire, burn and injury risks.
“The lithium-ion battery in the power banks can explode or ignite, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers,” the recall warns.
The products are black with yellow cables.
The brand name “NEWDERY” is engraved on the front and the model number “ZHX-PB22” printed on the back.
The recalled products were sold nationwide on Amazon from October 2023 to November 2024 for between $27 and $50.
“Consumers should stop using the recalled power banks immediately and contact NEWDERY for instructions on how to receive a full refund,” the recall states.
To receive a full refund, consumers will be asked to submit a photo of the power bank with the model number and serial number both visible.
Consumers are asked to write the word “recalled” and their last name on the power bank in permanent marker, then confirm they have disposed of the power banks before receiving a refund.
